Work continues on implementing our new Digital Sub Channel (DSC) system called WxText.
WxText technology will allow the National Weather Service to broadcast their weather forecasts and "All Hazards" warning alerts using text in addition to the existing voice weather broadcasts on NOAA weather radio channels.
While WxText was initially developed to allow deaf and hard of hearing persons to use the NOAA Weather Radio, it has been determined that text braodcasts can make weather and emergency notifications more clearly understood in noisy and busy environments such as boating, RV drivers, commercial truck drivers and others where full-time attention to the voice weather broadcast is not practical. WxText will benefit everyone and help save lives!
